Ocean Park is a unique Marine Aquarium Park the only one of its kind in the Southern Caribbean providing locals and visitors alike the opportunity to see and experience life under the sea without having to get wet. The aquarium features species primarily from Barbados and the wider Caribbean but also showcases species from other Tropical Marine environments.
Recently nominated for two distinctive awards - Award of Excellence and Environmental Excellence - We are proud to be the winners in both catagories and would like to thank it's staff, members and all supporters who made this possible.
This 14 million dollar investment was opened on June 4th 2005 and since inception has continually upgraded and added to both the displays and general facilities which now feature one of the best equipped playgrounds on the island, covered function facilities for up to 275 persons in each of it’s two such locations, excellent catering facilities, trained marine guides and aquarists, restaurant, gift shop and renovated and re-themed mini golf facility.
Never prepared to simply continue to offer customers the same experience displays are designed to be dynamic and informative and recent additions have included black tip reef sharks, baby bonnet head sharks, cow nose rays and unusual shark egg cases which give guests the opportunity to see the young prior to hatching by illuminating the egg from behind with a light. Management recognizes the need as an attraction to ensure that the public is not just entertained but also educated and to this end there are daily interactive talks and feeding demonstration which allow guests to learn more about the amazing animals on display. Additionally all staff, whether employed on the displays side of the business or in general customer service receive training about all of the displays, animals and habitats so that guests are sure to receive accurate and informed feedback from all staff.
Ocean Park aims to be the best attraction in Barbados and the wider Caribbean and to this end is actively pursuing the addition of a waterpark – an additional 5 million dollar investment and an interactive Dolphin Swim in partnership with an internationally recognized partner. Both of these new phases will ensure that Barbados has a world class attraction facility with high visitor appeal – both to land based and cruise visitors as well as to our local public.
In an effort to ensure that customers receive only the highest level of service staff receive constant training and input from management with regard to new display and services as well as with regard to the general performance of their duties. Ocean Park recently entered both the Chef and Bartender BH&TA Competitions and continually sends staff on training programs and exchange visits so that they can increase their understanding and skills.
